A Meaningful Visit from Our First-Year Students: University–School Collaboration at Şehit Kemal Aslan Primary School

As part of the Introduction to University Life course, our first-year students visited Şehit Kemal Aslan Primary School, accompanied by our Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Eyüp Bozkurt. Aiming to gain firsthand insight into the educational environments where they will work in the future, the students had the opportunity to meet primary school teachers and students, and to observe classroom practices on site.

During the visit, the university students engaged in short conversations with the primary school pupils, toured the learning environments, and experienced their first field interaction related to the teaching profession. Meeting students in a real school setting for the first time, the prospective teachers stated that their motivation for the profession had increased.

Prof. Dr. Eyüp Bozkurt emphasized that such activities strengthen the professional awareness of teacher candidates, noting that “Getting to know the field closely enables our students to evaluate the institutions where they will work in the future with a more informed perspective.”

The visit is considered a valuable experience for enabling teacher candidates to gain their first professional observations and to experience educational environments firsthand. We would like to thank the course instructor Prof. Dr. Eyüp Bozkurt, as well as the administrators and teachers of Şehit Kemal Aslan Primary School, for their efforts in making this meaningful event possible.
